You may need to check specific notifications to keep up with the workflow. The solution is Focus on Windows 11. You just need to enable this feature; select the notifications you want to hide and view. The hidden notifications will stay in the notification center; you can check them after finishing your work. So, here’s how to use Focus on Windows 11.

How to Use Focus in Windows 11

After the latest 22H2 update, Microsoft integrated Focus with the Clock app. So, you can access focus from the Clock app. But it’s not the only access point. You can also access it via the quick settings and the settings app on Windows 11.

Quick Settings

  1. Click the Date and Time Button on the right side of the Taskbar. Alternatively, you can press Win + N keys on the keyboard.
  2. Under the Calendar,  you can change the duration of the session.
  3. After setting the duration, click the Focus button.

Windows Settings App

Another access point is the Windows Settings app.

  1. Open the Windows Settings app and select the System tab.
  2. On the right side, scroll down and click the Focus tile.
  3. Set the focus duration as per your requirement.
  4. Click the blue Start Focus Session button.

As Microsoft has integrated Focus with the Clock app, you can start a focus session using the Clock app too.

  1. Open the Clock app.
  2. Click the Focus Sessions option on the right side.
  3. First, set the focus duration. Then, click the Start Focus Session button below. Additional Tip: You will have the option to use the Skip Breaks feature if your session is more than 30 minutes. Check the box if you do not want any breaks during the session.

You can also customise your focus session in multiple ways. Multiple options in the Focus settings menu can make the experience even better. You can access focus settings from the Clock app, but you can also do it from Windows Settings.

Settings App

Accessing Focus settings via the Settings app will enable you to deactivate different notification features. These are purely to enhance the experience by reducing distractions.

  1. Open the Windows Settings app and select the System tab.
  2. On the right side, scroll down and click the Focus tile.
  3. Under the session duration tile, four options are available. You can check the option that you want to use with Focus. Show the Timer in the Clock App: This will simply enable the Clock app to show information during the session.  Hide the Badges on Taskbar Apps: Disables the notification badges for the apps visible on the taskbar.  Hide Flashing on Taskbar Apps: This disables the flashing alert from applications; not included in Focus.    Turn On Do Not Disturb: This essentially disables all notifications. You can view them after the session is over from the notification center.

Use Focus Daily Progress on Windows 11

In order to make the focus sessions even more effective, Microsoft has added the daily progress widget. This feature tracks all your focus sessions and helps you to become more productive.  It’s a challenge for yourself. But the default settings can be too much for first-timers. So, it needs to be changed. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Open the Clock app.
  2. Navigate to the Focus Sessions.
  3. Click the Edit button at the top.
  4. Now, set your daily goal time.  Additional Tip: You can choose to reset the daily progress and the finished tasks. Set the time, and it will reset automatically. You can also check the Include Weekends in Streaks option.
  5. Click the Save button.  After executing the steps, you can review your daily progress.

What is Focus mode on Windows 11?

Focus is a new Windows 11 feature that reduces distractions and helps the user to become more productive. Microsoft integrated it with the Clock app. But this is not the successor of Focus Assist on Windows 10. It is a new addition. The Do Not Disturb mode is the successor of Focus Assist.

Is there a Do Not Disturb mode on Windows 11?

Yes, Windows 11 has a dedicated Do Not Disturb mode. You can access it from the settings. Settings » Notifications » Do Not Disturb. Toggle the switch to enable/disable the mode.

Final Words

Focus is a great way to start your journey if you want to become more productive. Microsoft did an excellent job with this feature. Also, it is technically called Focus Sessions but is popularly known as Focus.  But do not confuse it with Focus Assist. Focus Assist was a feature on Windows 10. Now, it is known as Do Not Disturb.
